Karachay is a lake in the southern Ural mountains in central Russia. Starting in 1951, the Soviet Union used Karachay as a dumping site for radioactive waste from Mayak, the nearby nuclear waste storage and reprocessing facility. According to an official report, the area became the most polluted spot on Earth, with a level of radiation sufficient to give a lethal dose to a human within an hour.
lyrics
Raising Cold War tensions, founded the Mayak combine
In quest for nuclear power reactors brought on line
In secrecy, fully operational as planned
But accidents, disasters came to pass and it soon got out of hand
In a godforsaken land
A lake in a shell
Of soil and concrete sealed
Poisonous dust in the wind
Above the toxic field
A lake in a shell
Of soil and concrete sealed
Groundwater tainted
Beneath the toxic field
Waste disposal strategies never proven to be profound,
Geiger counters ticking nervously all around
And so the lake Karachay became a dumping ground for waste
Engineers never cared to handle it properly in their haste
The whole land defaced
A lake in a shell
Of soil and concrete sealed
A lethal dose of radiation
Within an hour out in the field
A lake in a shell
Of soil and concrete sealed
The most polluted spot on Earth,
For many decades concealed

I love the polish metal scene. There are some great black and death metal bands. But these dudes play some real dirty blackened death metal. Redemption is some groovy shit. Definitely a highly recommended album! Sælzer Bub

Another fantastic Altar of Betelgeuze record! Another Transcending Obscurity win! This shit is so so good! Heavier than the first, and more of a 90’s vibe, yet heavier at the same time. Love it! J. Wukotich
